4107 Transmission Grinding/Hard Clutch Pedal Patrick Bennett 4-19-07
Is it normal for a 4107 clutch pedal to be hard to depress?
Also, the transmission grinds when shifting until transmission fluids are warmed up; say 1/2 hour of driving.
I am a newbie, so have no idea what is normal for these. Thanks for your help.

Patrick,
It's probably normal. The stock 4 speed uses a 2 disk wet clutch. Getting it into first gear after a cold start usually is best done by shutting down the engine, putting it in 1st then restarting with the clutch depressed. While driving just downshift with the clutch down as you roll to a stop and hold the clutch down at a light. If you can get it to shift into first with the engine running even after it's all warmed up you are lucky. Also all 8V71s have a supercharger, two cycles can't run without it.

The wetclutch setup has 3 discs..

Straight cut gears in tranny.. will not shift without grinding.

You must double clutch and or once your talented.. you dont use the clutch at all when shifting...

After the bus warms up.. shut it off. put in first and go...

with a slight feel on the shifter you can shift to 2nd third and 4th without using the clutch.. easy to learn..

Oh, you have to run each gear up to the governor speed to do this... no problem...

good luck...:)

As far as a hard pedel.. there is a problem somewhere.. as the pedel is NOT hard to push down when correct...

Be sure there is 1/4 inch play in Clutch arm on side of housing.. at end of clutch rod... most take up the play thinking they will DISENGAGE more.. doesnt happen... burns out clutch..
