Can anyone tell me what the down side of having aluminum holding tanks if there is one. I have the new aluminum to make the sizes I need and can bend and weld them to the shapes I need. My wife is afraid the water might have a taste. Is there anyone out there that has done this. I am converting a 1986 Neoplan Bus "102".

Replying only because I too am converting a Neoplan AN340..if your at the tank install stage you must be a little behind where I'm at. I would like to exchange info and experience..I purchased my project after it was somewhat converted and found myself making many changes to all systems, the original owner of the conversion paid no attention at all to the chassis and "running gear" so I found myself starting over and made many interesting discovery's along the way that you may find helpful. the original bus wiring system was my biggest nightmare which I was only able to overcome with the help of a "real" expert on such issues. BEST MONEY SPENT TO DATE. willing to share what I have learned along the way if you are seeking such info.. Lets Chat! I'm sure you have also learned some Do's and Do Nots that maybe helpful to me.. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT and I haven't come across anyone doing a NEO! "GREAT BUS" according to my diesel expert.. PETER

We have successfully used an AL water tank for over twelve years without any problems noted. Al is susceptable to chlorine corrosion so minimize the amount of chloringe in the tank. No odor and no tatse problems. The link between brain problems and AL has been debunked by several reputable studies.

The aluminum residue can call alzhiemers as it builds up in your metabolism. The plastic tanks are the only safe way to go.

Hi Tom, Just saw your tank question. Little late but older boats used alum. tanks for years, although being a boater may have sanity questions in itself. I also have an '87 AN340 102 and would like to share communication with you and Peter on the conversions. If you have any interest in sharing, please email me. thanks Butch

Prevost

What is the safest and best product for holding tank?

We had a horrible odor and determined it was the gray tank. Put in chlorine and tide in both and drove around for while. Emptied, filled, emptied. We have not put in any chemicals in the holding and am curious about what to use.
