Re: 5R55E Trans Delayed Engage 97 AStar by jd
Post New Message A transmission shop in fact talked about putting a different plate in the valve body. And if that didn't fix it, I'd be credited toward their (high) price of a complete overhaul. Sounded to me like guessing. Like the other shop that told me no solenoids were involved in first gear engagement. I've got a printout of an article from Gears Magazine that debunks that. It's all solenoid controlled even reverse. Sounded like he was guessing too. If I can get the content of that TSB, I'll call Ford and see what they say. I like having an idea where the story should go so I can evaluate if they're gambling with my vehicle and money. If I learn the ECM should have been updated and has not been, I'll try to get it done, paid service or not. Then we'll see how the transmission operates. I have a source that'll rebuild mine and ship it back for under half what the local shops want to do the job. Just concerned that a rebuilt, not controlled properly by the ECM, will act as badly as the current one does.
So there WAS a plate...
God Bless, jd
