Detroit diesel help GPG 11-29-08
I have an uncontrolable roll in the engine at idle, especially when it is cold. Also the engine retarded stopped working and I developed a serious oil leak. Can't get a mechanic until Wednesday at the earliest and we need to get home. Any suggestions?

It sounds to me like your Jake brake/buffer screw has somehow come out of the governor housing. I have seen where the lock nut wasn't tight and the screw vibrated enough to wear the aluminun governor housing. I never saw one fall out, but it is possible. It is a bit tricky but it can be repaired with a heli-coil, but unless you really know what you are doing, I wouldn't suggest you try it on your own.

Joe, With the help of another person in the campground, we found what you said and he cleaned it up and stuck it back in it's place with some silicone. Then he took plastic tie wraps and secured it. When we get home, we will get it fixed right. Many thanks for your help.
