I want to swap out the original 454 engine for a 1997 vortec 454 out of a suburban. my question is will this newer version of the 454 bolt up to the original transmission?

I would check with the GM dealer with engine Block number and your vin---ask them---I think the actual blocks might be the same-Bolt holes--on the heads and intake will definately be different.-but I doubt any of the forward items will like AC,alternator power steering,
I wanted do go from 454---to vortec---they said I couldn't,due to computer and.. whole engine assemblies are 5 grand when I checked--

Thanks rich, i've found a complete engine with computer (very complete) I just need to know that a new vortec will fit on to a 1984 tranny. with the enconomy flat you'd be surprised what a complete engine will sell for..mine was under 2K
