1988 Ford E350 Fleetwood Tioga not getting fuel Will 10-2-08
Im having trouble starting the engine in my RV. Here is what's happening..... It is turning over but not starting. Upon testing, I have spark. I did not have fuel pressure when testing. When checking the fuel pump we found three prongs with wires protruding from them. When turning the ignition switch on halfway, we used a tester. The ignition switch bulb blinked on and off. When turn on completely the engine would crank but the bulb would not light on the tester. We checked the reset switch inside the cab and confirmed it was depressed. The fuel pump is fairly new (its 6 months old) and its only been driving less than a 1000 miles. Also I do have gas! Any clue why its not starting?

With EFI, the pump will only come on for a few seconds to pressurize the line and then go off until the engine starts. What you're seeing actually sounds like normal ops.

Pull a spark plug or 2 and see if they're getting wet or if they smell like gas. If they are, open the exhaust system before the catalytic converter. If the rig starts with the exhaust open, you have a collapsed cat. Ford has a recall for this that replaces the cat and O2 sensor and fuel computer for free.

Keep in mind that if the plugs are fouled (covered in soot), they'll need to be cleaned or replaced first.

If there's no gas getting to the cylinder, you really need to verify fuel pressure at the fuel rail. You need a minimum of 35psi to start the engine. the pressure should come up quickly when the key is turned to "Run" and hold. If it leaks down, that could be problem with the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. If that tests good, you're problem is between the fuel rail and the intake valves. I've never seen 8 injectors plugged up, so at that point I'd say check for codes and see what's in the fuel computer. at that point it's a electrical problem.

Hope that helps!

Ok. I'm a retired master mechanic. Sometimes it's the power to the electric pump. It gets that from ANOTHER power source that comes through a MASTER CUT OFF SWITCH that's usually hidden under the steering wheel to prevent theft. It turns off a lot of things that should normally work. The engine will run until the lines run out of fuel, then it'll stop. Find the switch and then turn the key on and let the pump prime the lines for a couple of minutes, then it should run fine..If you've done this, then the brain is probably toast. Replace it from a junkyard. It doesn't have to be a special brain for an RV. Just get one for the same year and brand of truck(go by what engine is in it) of truck and it'll work fine. Check the fuel filter by the pump and the pump too. It'll HAVE to run..
