Recently saw on another rv site a link to a ceiling fabric that is 8 1/2 ft. wide so there is no seems. they also sold the adhesive to install with.

i would say yes the old headliner needs to come down.

try here: http://www.sailrite.com/Categories/Headliners

we did a rough estimate to redo our 29ft MH and it came to less than $500.

I am in the process of doing this repair - a very common problem, caused by heat deteriorating the foam rubber - reading many posts on this, glue will not work. I have pulled the old liner tight and stapled it at the divider strips running wall to wall, as well as at most of the ac duct vents, etc. Next, i got 8ft trim pieces at Lowes, spray painted them to match the celing color. This weekend will be screwing them up on either side of the existing wall to wall strips to hide the staples and hopefully to keep the headliner in place. May also have to use 1/4 round, or something similar at the ceiling/cabinet line - other posts say this should work - lot cheaper and easier then total removal and replacement (so far have less then $60 invested) good luck!
