Are RV Air Conditioner Units Re-Chargable? Richard Yood 9-24-08
I have a Class A Motor Home with 2 Duo Therm AC units in the roof. A 57915 in the front and a 51915.531 in the rear. Both units do not seem to be cooling as well as before. Both filters are clean so I'm thinking low coolant, but have been told that RV AC units cannot be re-charged like a home unit can.
I find that hard to believe, so I thought I would as at a location where they were not trying to sell me new air conditioners...

The truth is that any HVAC mechanic can probably diagnose your AC woes and recharge them if they are low. The problem is that recharges are a temporary fix in most cases and the bill is going to make you squeal. When the repair bills are usually in excess of 50% of a new unit most people just change them out. Also as they age and get used they do wear and loose efectivness. But it should take years of continuous use to get to that point. By the way you should think of this as a refrigerator with out the white box. The mechanicals are quite similar to and display cooler or fancy large refrigerator. I hope this helps. Good Luck
