Chev astro won't start Steve 9-19-08
Hello all- First, I am no mechanic by far.I have a 2000 Chev Astro van. It has sat up for about 5 months. Tried to start it, dead battery, I got battery charged but engine only turns over but does not crank. When I spray starting fluid down into whatever that air filter hose goes to, it starts for a mili second and thats it. Someone told me to bang on gas tank while starting. So what do i do now and is a fuel pump or fuel filter the likely problem and is it easy for a novice person like me ? Thanks for any suggestions !!
Steve

The fuel pump will make a loud buzzing noise when the key is turned to "Run" (the last click right before the starter cranks and all the lights on the dash come on). If you hear the buzz or if you have someone listen for the buzz while you turn the key and they hear it, then change the fuel filter. If there's no buzz, you have a problem in the fuel pump power cicuit or in the pump itself.

Hope that helps!
