460 glowing manifolds jakester 9-15-08
I have a 1989 e-350 fuel injected motorhome with a 460. Bought it not running, needed heads. Installed heads, fuel pumps, injectors, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, filters, fuel pressure regulator and o2 sensor. The problem is my manifolds are glowing when i run at about 2500 rpm in the driveway or on the road. The cat. conv. was hollowed out, it was plugged, new one is on order. Timing is right on went off emissions sticker for spec. At idle and at any throttle no hesitation, runs good sounds healthy. Any help would be appreiated. THANKS

It sounds like late timing. Double check your timing. Are you getting an over fuel condition? Is the exhaust pipe black?

Jakester, take your VIN number down to the local Ford dealer. Sounds like your rig is a candidate for the cat converter recall. The recall replaces the cat converter, O2 sensors and fuel computer due to a rich running condition that causes the cat to collapse and clog up. Parts and labor are free.

Hope that helps!
