97 GMC van wont start Earl 9-9-08
My 97 GMC Vandura 3500 wont start. So the background, the truck sat for about 3 months, I started it moved it and shut it down. It didnt get started for another week at which point it will not start. The gas does smell stale and the truck will start if you pour and keep feeding gas straght into the throttle body. I am assuming that I need to replace the injectors, filter, drain the tank and flush the lines then fill the tank with fresh gas. Would I be correct in this assesment? It has a 350 with auto tranny about 180,000 miles, I have checked all the fuses as well as fuel pressure and they are all as supposed to be.

I think you're correct in your assessment with draining the tank, flushing the lines and changing the fuel filter. There are a few products on the market that can clean out the injectors (at 30 to 75 bucks a pop, that's not something I'd be in a hurry to replace). The best product I've used is by 3M and it pressurizes the fuel rail and cleans the injectors while the engine runs on the cleaning fluid. You hook up a large can to the fuel rail and disconnect the fuel pump relay and just start the motor.

Hope that helps!

Before you start replacing everything, buy one of those little testers that have a diode in them to check if your injectors are "firing" or not.

This does not help you know but for th efuture, if you are leaving a vehicle sit, add the appropriate amount of stabil (a cheap insurance in the bottle to avoid this problem).
