Duo Therm Heater acting funny Chad 9-5-08
I have a Duo-Therm 65900 series model 041. My pilot light works fine. Now here is where it gets tricky to me. When I have just my battery hooked up my burners won't come on. The fan will run. Now I don't know if this is right but, I tried running jumper cables to my truck just to make sure that I had enough juice. Still the burners didn't come on. The next thing I did is start my truck. Well, that turned on my burners and everything was fine. I just can't figure out why it won't run on 12v but, if I have my power hooked up to my generator everything is fine and works great. Any ideas where I should start?

I'm kinda wondering if it is my ac/dc converter or something like that any ideas?

You may have a tired/slow running motor. If the motor wont get up to speed the sail switch wont close so the gas valve wont open. Need to check amp draw against spec (8 amps rule of thumb as I dont have a book for this one) But raising the voltage and having things work correct shure sounds like a tired motor. Good Luck

Bubba,
I purchased Chad's camper trailer. Chad informed me the furnace was problematic and we replaced the limit switch hoping to remedey the issue. However, your diagnosis matches my father's; the blower motor is shorting out, likely across the copper coils as the lacquer insulation is breaking down (the camper is 31 yrs old). It was drawing 10 amps and blwoing the fuse that protects the deep discharge battery.
I will attempt to get the coils "rewound" to avoid buying a new furnace. Hopefully, they still do that somewhere in Colorado Springs!
