1985 Ford 460 Vanguard Motorhome Holley Carb EeL 8-31-08
1985 460 Ford Motorhome with Holley Carb seems to bog and backfire going up hills and when stepping on gas. Seems ok on regular street usage.
Thought it was fuel pump but pump turned out ok. Any suggestions?

First thing I check on these Holleys is that the secondary side of the carb opens on demand. Take the air cleaner off, warm up the engine, and while in neutral floor the pedal while observing the air doors over the secondary side of the carb. Being vacuum operated, they should open as engine RPM increases and then become fully open and you'll hear a definite roar as all that additional air enters the engine. Warning!!, do not look directly down into the carb while doing this, a backfire through the carb could fry your eyeballs!!!

Getting no gas, (with the line loose it will 'spit' gas every once in a while), rebuilt the carb, cant find the fuel pump. switch tank valve has six lines. it doesn't matter if i try the front or rear tanks, both do the same thing.
