Atwood hot water heater connection Mark Semeraro 8-26-08
Hi there- replies appreciated.

I bought a new atwood 5 gallon water heater for our motorhome. The previous owner removed the old one.

I have the gas line attached and it is in the home but the water lines are yet to be connected.
I am not sure where I can get the parts that screw in to the back of the water heater in order to connect the water lines to? Will a place like Lowes or Home depot have them or will I need to go to a rv supply store?

With gas as expensive as it is, I hate to run all over. Any thoughts?

Hi Mark, The fittings for the water heater in and outlet are standard 1/2" pipe thread and you can get nipples at Lowe's, HD or any plumbing supply. If you go to an RV parts store get 1/2" MPT male couplings. I suggest using a thread compound instead of Teflon tape, it usually seals better. Good luck!
