Post New Message Wow...345 with a vacuum governor. You won't get more than you have now without overspeeding the engine. The differential ratio is your problem. To get any power out of the 345, the rear gearing is low. If you change the ratio and go higher, you will be downshifting on every little hill. And, yes it is a small engine in today's time.
Without going to a larger engine and a higher ratio, I think you are stuck where you are.
