I have a 1998 escort se 4cy
it quit sunning one day with my daughter
when i got to it it crancked up and ran fine
took it to the shop.. found nothing wrong..i have taken it to the shop several times with same problem.. they finly changed the fuel pump 2 times
it runes great for a small while and then quits will not crank.. then the next time you get in it it cranks and runs fine ( it has a mind of it;s on )
what could be the problem

For the engine cutting off, it could be the fuel pump relay is failing or you have a leak between the fuel pump and the steel fuel line in the tank. There is a plastic piece that is notorious for leaking and can easily be replaced with a few inches of EFI rated rubber fuel line and 2 small hose clamps.
For the engine not cranking when hot, this is usually the sign of a starter beginning to fail. This could also be the remote starter solinoid failing as well, so you should test both.
