Dometic not working - help Dee 7-21-08
Our Dometic R2804 was working fine, then the bottom unit quit cooling but the freezer was working with no problem, then the freezer quit working.

Can you tell me what may be the problem or should we junk it and buy a new one (or used one - they are so expensive)??? Thanks

Hi Dee, Without being there, I'd suspect your cooling unit has gone bad. If you see anything yellow and powdery or smell ammonia it's leaking and the only way to repair it is to replace the cooling unit. If no signs of leaking, you may have a blockage. You can get rebuilt units for quite a bit less than buying a new fridge. Buying a used fridge is risky. How long will it last? Personal opinion, what I've seen of Dometic's newer model cooling unit failures, I'd be inclined to go with a rebuild. If you feel comfortable doing it you can direct wire the heating element to 120V and if you have no improvement it's the cooling unit. Or have it checked by an RV repair person. Good luck!
